Getting involved with WIFT-AT
Can you help us to increase representation and gender equity in the screen industry in Atlantic Canada?
Women in Film and Television Atlantic (WIFT-AT) is a non-profit professional association that has been advancing gender equity for those working in screen-based media in Atlantic Canada since 2009.

The Community Builder will be responsible for supporting the WIFT-AT member experience with engagement practices and systems. The Community Builder will evaluate recent recommendations of possible platforms, systems, events and practices to support the WIFT-AT member experience, in order to prioritize recommendations to prototype and test over a trial period.
- Location | Virtual (Individual can work remotely from home anywhere in Nova Scotia)
- Length of Contract | 26 weeks, Oct 31-Apr 28
- Hours | 35 hours per week (variable hours, occasional evenings and weekends)
The candidate should possess very good written and verbal communication skills, experience with member engagement, experience in Zoom’s back-end, Google Workspace, and community building platforms like Mighty Networks. Familiarity with inclusive design principles and accessibility considerations is an asset. Experience with membership management systems such as Wild Apricot is an asset. Experience with administration of Slack or Discord servers is an asset. Experience with project management principles and tools (eg Asana) is an asset. Experience with email newsletter tools like Mailchimp is an asset, but is not necessary. A background and/or interest in the film industry is also an asset, but is not necessary. This is a learning position and the successful applicant will work with support and supervision from the WIFT-AT Executive Director.
- Engage with WIFT-AT community on and offline (as possible)
- Evaluate recommendations for supporting member experience to identify priority recommendations
- Create prototype structures or mechanisms required by prioritized recommendations
- Support member experience via prototypes for a trial period
- Evaluate and report on trial
- Implement approved recommendations from trial
Corresponding with WIFT-AT members and community as well as the WIFT-AT Executive Director, in person (as possible) and by video conference, phone, email, and other messaging systems. Communicating to manage collaborations, solicit input, build relationships, and other related purposes.
Reviewing the recommendations on supporting member experience via communication systems, practices and platforms, working with the Executive Director to establish an evaluation framework (eg resource needs in terms of time, budget, staffing; change management needs; etc) and completing evaluation of recommendations.
Content Design and Creation
Identifying any communications, processes, prompts, or other structures needed to implement the recommendations around WIFT-AT member experience, and designing then creating them. Structures impacting member experience may range very widely, from how passwords are reset in a community platform, through to how a networking event feels to attend. In the example of an event, content design and creation could mean designing the event for easy networking by making choices relating to agenda, timing and atmosphere, and then creating that agenda, timing, and atmosphere.
Project Planning and Management
Preparing a critical path for the implementation of recommendations, identifying and making necessary adjustments to the critical path, reporting on progress.
