The Visual Mind of the Screenplay with Bill Boyle 

Location: The Haviland Club, 2 Haviland Street, Charlottetown, PEI.

Description: Women in Film and Television–Atlantic (WIFT-AT) and the Island Media Arts Coop (IMAC) are jointly sponsoring two days of lectures and conversation with Hollywood producer, director, author, Bill Boyle, on the craft of writing the picture perfect screenplay.    Bill Boyle, an award winning screenwriter, UCLA Extensions Instructor, and author of The Visual Mindscape of the Screenplay, has been rated by Creative Screenwriting Magazine among the top 10% of Script Analysts and Consultants.  Bill has been involved in the film industry in both Canada and the U.S. for over 25 years as a writer, director, agent, producer, story editor and mentor.

Learn the fundamentals of writing visually: the essence of the perfect script.   These sessions are suitable for all levels of writers.

All WIFT members in attendance will be eligible to WIN their $100 registration fee.  Draw will take place during the workshop.

Following is the workshop fee is structure:

  • $120 Early Bird Rate (by May 10);
  • $100 Rate for members of WIFT or any film coop in Atlantic Canada (IMAC, NIFCO, NBFC, AFCOOP);
  • $150 Regular Rate;
  • $75 for those who can only attend one day.

Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (HIFF)

Location: Bus Stop Theatre/NSCAD University/Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS

Description: The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (HIFF) is dedicated to the exhibition of film and video as art, in a noncompetitive setting free from commercial agendas. Focussing on the short film as a form of expression and on Canadian artists, the 7th Annual HIFF takes place April 6-12, 2013.

Loud and Clear: Finding your voice in Music and Film

Location:  RCA LSPU HALL Cox & Palmer Second Space, 3 Victoria St. St. John’s, NL

Date/Time: Friday April 19, 1 – 2 pm, with networking opportunity to follow

Description:  The RCA Lunch at the Hall Series partners with The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, Women in Film and Television – Atlantic and Lawnya Vawnya to present this panel on the experience of women in film and music. Do women struggle with different confidence issues than men? Want some inspiration to just keep plowing forward, believing in what you do and putting yourself and your projects out there?  Filmmakers Elsa Morena and Latonia Hartery join musicians Amy Rigby and Lisa Bozikovic to discuss their experiences when it comes to issues of confidence, perseverance, rejection, rewards, motivation and momentum.

Reel Talk: Conversations with Women in Film and Television – Featuring Writer/Actor Jackie Torrens
