Film Festivals

So many festivals! If you have attended a film festival that you think our members should know about, please feel free to post a review in the comments below.

The Atlantic Film Festival | September 13-22nd, 2012.
The Atlantic Film Festival is a ten-day celebration of film, video and music from around the world.  It’s a festival that turns Halifax–a charming and historic little seaside town–into an international mecca for the arts year after year, abuzz with filmmakers, industry types and plain old film lovers.  Together, we watch movies, we talk movies, and we dance.

The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival | April 10-14th, 2012
The 6th Annual Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (HIFF), features five days of film and video screenings, performances, artist talks and live events.  HIFF will present the 2nd Atlantic Women In Film Screening in partnership with WIFT-AT celebrating films from Atlantic Canada made by women

The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival | October 16-20th, 2012
One of our favourite festivals!  The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival (SJIWFF) is one of the longest running women’s film festivals in the world and largest in Canada. Established in 1989 to support and promote women filmmakers, SJIWFF produces several screenings, workshops and other events throughout the year, culminating in a five day film festival held in October in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.

The Toronto Female Eye Film Festival | March 28th – April 1st, 2012
The Female Eye Film Festival, established in 2001, is Ontario’s one and only annual international independent women’s film festival.  Presenting high calibre films in drama, comedy, sci-fi, action, documentary, experimental and animation, the Female Eye is a juried competitive film festival showcasing films by debut, emerging and international recognized directors.

Vancouver Women In Film Festival | March 8-11th, 2012
Founded in 2006, the Vancouver Women in Film Festival is one of only three film festivals in Canada featuring women filmmakers.  As such, the festival brings filmmakers and audiences together, offering opportunities for women filmmakers in Western Canada that would not exist without it.

Hi WIFT-AT! Thanks for the great mention on your page. I just wanted to point out a couple of other women’s film festivals in Canada that are well established and definitely worth submitting your work to, and attending:

The Toronto Female Eye Film Festival, March 28th – April 1st, 2012: http://www.femaleeyefilmfestival.com/
Vancouver Women In Film Festival, also in March: http://www.womeninfilm.ca/WIFF_2011.html

Hope that helps, keep up the great work!
