NL Pulse Summer 2011

The island is busy and abuzz:

  • The Nickel Film Festival just wrapped up another stellar year. Nickel honorees for 2011 were handed out by TV journalist, Natalie Kalata. Among those cited for outstanding work were Jordan Canning (Not Over Easy), Jacqueline Hynes (Cardboard Junction)
  • Deanne Foley (The Magnificent Molly McBride) is wrapping production on her first feature Film, Beat Down.
  • Board member and producer (Grown Up Movie Star ) Jill Knox-Gosse is wrapping up the documentary Don Jamieson: Just Himself.
  • Barb Doran is set to begin production on her next feature Grand Seduction this fall.
  • The Nickel Independent Film Festival and Downtown St. John’s are holding a series of outdoor film screenings every Monday night in July! These screenings will take place in the parking lot below the Ship, to the right of Solomon’s Lane, off Water St. at 9:00 PM.
  • NIFCO’s Picturestart program is NOW accepting applications.
  • Fogo Island Arts Corp announced their Open Call for Residencies.
  • NIFCO’s annual general meeting was held July 7 – welcome to the Board Shara King, Flora Planchat, and Jacqueline Hynes.
  • Check out how Re-Mode Control went last week in Fogo – brought to you by the power of twitcasting.
  • and of course Republic of Doyle is gearing up for season three.
