In keeping with one of WIFT-Atlantic’s primary goals, to celebrate the work of Atlantic women in the Screen Industry, the WIFT-AT Board is happy to announce the first WIFT Wave Awards which will be handed out Sunday, March 6th at the Women Making Waves Awards Brunch.

Just wanted to catch everyone up on the activities of the WIFT-AT Board. It has been a very busy few months with so many Board members double and triple tasking to help this fledgling organization fly. Every Board member sits on and is actively involved in at least 1, if not 2 (or 3!) Committees to ensure that every province has a voice and is well represented.

This March, to coincide with International Women’s Day (March 8th), Women in Film and Television Atlantic (WIFT-AT) is proud to announce our first annual Women Making Waves weekend, in partnership with Mount Saint Vincent University, located in the beautiful Bedford Basin.

True story. Two years ago, I found myself crying pitifully alone (yes, 28 years old and crying) on a train hurtling through Chicago. I had just come from a Self-distribution for Film Workshop put on by Yvonne Welbon through the Independent Feature Project.
It’s been a very exciting first few months for the Development Committee. We have great representation from all four Atlantic Provinces including Gretchen Kelbaugh (NB), Martha Cooley (NS), Louise Lalonde (PEI) and Jill Knox-Gosse (NF). We’ve hit the ground running in order to prepare for WIFT-AT’s first big weekend event: Women Making Waves.
