“The Editor” to screen at Atlantic Film Festival

The Editor, directed by award-winning filmmaker Jillian Acreman, has been selected to screen at the Atlantic Film Festival.

New Brunswick Filmmaker Jillian Acreman wrote, directed, and produced the film, which won the Viewer’s Choice Award after its premiere at the 2010 Silver Wave Film Festival in Fredericton.

10×10 Music Video Program is Back!

Music & Image is thrilled to announce the return of the 10×10 Music Video Program!
EXTENDED DEADLINE. NOW MONDAY, AUG 22 at noon!

This September, 10 Atlantic Canadian filmmakers and 10 Atlantic Canadian musicians/bands will be paired up to produce 10 music videos, over 5-days. Selected filmmakers and musicians will participate in a music video workshop, on Monday September 12th and have access to video director mentors, professional film equipment and post-production support during the 5-day program from Monday Sept. 12-Friday Sept. 16. Facilitating the program and guiding the teams will be 2011 Juno and 2011 MMVA award winning music video director, Kyle Davison.
An exciting new addition to the program this year is the RBC 10×10 Emerging Artists Award, to be presented to the team selected to have the best video as determined by the audience of fans and a panel of jurors at the final screening on Saturday September 17th. The winning team will be awarded $5000 to be split evenly between the filmmaker and band. Please note that artists and filmmakers must submit separate applications and cannot submit as a team. Teams will be randomly assigned at the Intro Session on Monday September 12th. New Brunswick News Summer 2011

LATEST ON NBFILM STATUS

A committee [of members of Media NB, other producers in New Brunswick and specific people within government] has met three times and the next meeting is scheduled for the 12th of July. There is some progress being made in that we are still in business. The government is working with us to have an interim plan that answers the needs of NB producers in the immediate future. There are funds available for new productions that answer the normal requirements for any NB productions. Details are being worked on and a date for an official announcement with the final details that is yet to be announced. It is overall good news for the producers but there is much work to be done as yet.

Women In Film & Television International: In the Beginning

Women In Film and Television International was born in the early eighties, in the back office of “The Hollywood Reporter”. Tichi Wilkerson, then-owner and editor-in-chief of the famed trade magazine and the founder of Women in Film (WIF) Los Angeles, had invited several European filmmakers to discuss the possibility of creating an international branch of WIF. The seven women in the room represented Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark and Israel. These seven later became WIFTI’s first board and I its first president.

“During my past 16 years at NIFCO, I have been mentored by many strong female producers and filmmakers and I have managed many industry upgrades for the Coop. NIFCO is now one of the top post co-ops in Canada. In fact, many filmmakers have visited NIFCO from around the world, and they all comment that they wish they lived in Newfoundland…This is when I feel lucky and honoured to be part of this fab Coop.
